Seniors victorious over Luffenham Heath 5½ - 2½

In a very busy week for the Belton Park Seniors with two matches in two days, the first fixture was a match against the Seniors from Luffenham Heath on Tuesday, July 30th. The match was played in good spirits on “World Friendship Day” and, with heavy rain and thunder storms threatening, all the groups managed to stay dry!

The greens had been verticut and sanded and were a little slower than normal, which seemed to fool the home team as well as the visitors. Paul Nash played in his first Seniors match and came up against an in-form pair and Belton lost that game 5&4. Seniors Vice-Captain Pete Long, Captain for the day, failed to lead by example, losing 2&1! The biggest win of the day for Belton was the pair of Mike Bower and Derek Bashford, Derek coming in as a last minute substitute and winning their match 5&3!

Following an excellent cold Buffet followed by strawberries and ice cream, Luffenham Heath Seniors Captain, David Fynn, praised the course for its superb condition and thanked the catering staff for an excellent meal.

John Thompson won a bottle of whisky in the heads and tails game.
