On Thursday 11th and Friday 12th August, Belton Park Juniors represented the club and Lincolnshire in the prestigious Champion Club of England Finals held at Woodhall Spa. In blistering heat over both days the Belton Park Juniors came agonisingly close to being crowned champion Club of England, eventually finishing fourth after looking like the potential winners on the back nine on Friday. The team of Emily Horsted, Marcus Wildblood and Toby Hayle all performed superbly and could not have given any more for the club and the County.
Belton Park had terrific support from family, Lincolnshire County members and club members who all made the journey to Woodhall to cheer the team on. The event was played on the Bracken course which proved to be very challenging with the ground being so hard and the greens so very tricky.
A special mention to our lowest handicap player, Marcus Wildblood who is pictured below. On Thursday Marcus had the best gross score of the day which was a fantastic achievement considering the calibre of golfer he was up against. Marcus shot a 73 which was just one over par and it was the standout performance of the day.
Also on Friday Belton Park Junior Captain, Ellie Horsted represented the club in the Ladies Medal Final which was played on the famous Hodgkin course. Ellie finished mid-table but had played superbly to get to the final with some outstanding scoring which saw her handicap reduce from 9 to just 4.6 over the period.
Our congratulations go to all three players in the team, to Ellie and to our other squad members who played such an essential part in helping Belton Park reach these finals. The club would like to thank all the family members and Belton Park members who supported the team over both days and just some of those who came on Friday are pictured below with Emily, Marcus and Toby on the 18th green. A great event for Belton Park Juniors that will live long in the memory.
Captain Andy Hodgson said what a great achievement for the juniors at Belton Park, I couldn’t be prouder of Emily, Marcus, Toby, and Ellie who were fantastic representatives for the club. Fourth place for the team was utterly brilliant and something the club can build on for future generations of junior golfers at Belton Park.
