Seniors Match vs Rutland Water away – June 17th

On Monday, June 17th the Seniors visited Rutland Water Golf Club for a friendly match in warm and fairly sunny weather which was a welcome change from the recent heavy rain!

The course was much softer than it was last year after a lot of rain in the last week or two. However, the greens were still quite challenging and the final result was a win for Rutland Water 4½ to 3½. This was a far better result than last year’s match which Belton Park lost 8-0!

Graham Secker won a bottle of wine for nearest the pin on the 12th hole after an amazing tee shot!

It was a very close-run contest with only 10 points separating first and last and only one point separating the top three. In third place and playing in their first mixed event were Julie and Andy Beanland who came in with 43 points. Securing second place on countback were the inform pairing of Grace and Sean Hale who have finished in the top three of all mixed events this season.

Belton Park Supporting Local Charities

On Monday 10th June Belton Park Captain Simon Denton presented two local charities with cheques for £2000 each following the successful Charity fund-raising event held at Belton Park Golf Club in May.

Receiving a cheque on behalf of Parkinson's UK was Raymond Flack, Chairman of the Grantham Branch and he was accompanied by fellow committee member, Mos Kalbassi.

The second cheque was presented to Lyn Copley and Ryan Jewitt  from the local branch of St Barnabus Hospice.

They all thanked the club for their continued efforts in raising much needed cash for their respective charities and emphasised how important these donations are to them.

The Captain gave special thanks to Mick Sims and Richard Brighton (both pictured) who along with Charles Hine organised the fund-raising event this year. Simon gave recognition of the tremendous amount of time, dedication and effort that all three Belton Park members had put in to making the event such a success. The date for next year’s Charity event is Friday 8th May.

First hole-in-one for Marjie Thompson!

Congratulations to Marjie Thompson who recently scored a hole in one on the 24th par 3 at Belton Park in the Brunyee Trophy. Anyone who has played at Belton Park knows how difficult it is to hit this green, let alone score a hole in one, will recognise what a great achievement this was. Marjie used a Callaway ball and recorded this great achievement on the HowdidIdo competition web site.
