Captains Charity Cheque Presentations

2019 Belton Park Golf Club Captains, Simon Denton and Helen Long, signed off their year with a cheque presentation to their chosen charities.

Simon supported Prostate Cancer UK and Helen supported The Alzheimer’s Society, both for very personal reasons. During their year Simon and Helen held several fund-raising events and raised a combined sum of nearly £12000 for the two Charities which was a terrific result.

Graham Bates and his wife Maureen are seen pictured receiving the cheque on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK and Ollie Larkin is pictured with Helen receiving the cheque for The Alzheimer’s Society.

Simon and Helen would like to thank everyone at Belton Park Golf Club for all their support in helping them raise so much money for these very important charities.

Seniors – Curly Foster Trophy - December 17th

On Tuesday, December 17th 51 Seniors played in the annual pre-Christmas fun competition, the Curly Foster Trophy. The format is an individual Stableford competition played over 15 holes with only 4 clubs, one of which must be a putter.

The conditions were dry (at last!) and the course has stood up well to the huge amount of rain over the past 6 weeks. The greens were in excellent condition considering the temperature and the amount of rain we’ve had recently.

After the competition the Seniors were led by choirmaster Paul Skelton in singing Christmas carols, including a special 12 days of Christmas with words composed by Andrew Cookson. Mulled wine, mince pies and sausage rolls were served and a bottle of whisky was kindly donated by the Seniors Vice Captain Tim Stubbs.

Colin Elstone Charity 2019

On Saturday 7th December 128 players competed in one of Belton Park Golf Club’s most anticipated competitions of the year, with the year’s beneficiaries being Macmillan Cancer Support. The Colin Elstone Bottle Charity AM-AM has been held in its current format for the last 31 years but started in the small way back in 1980.

This competition has now been organised by John Kirkup for the past 6 years and notoriously brings out the best in those competing with a great atmosphere and plenty of Christmas cheer. This year was no different which reflected in the amazing 2 from 4 stableford scores in the breezy conditions.

Before the presentation, Caroline Booth from Macmillan Cancer Support addressed the competitors, thanking them for their generosity and gave an insight of where the money would go.

Newly installed Club Captain Ged O’Reilly and Lady Captain Pam Wiggins were in attendance to congratulate all the winners and present them with their prizes.

This year 8 prizes were up for grabs the top 5 were:

1st S Allison, G Taylor, G Tupper and J Baxter 95pts

2nd N Gibson JNR, T Shaw, G Mitchell and W Clarke 91pts (on countback)

3rd S Moore, M Clarke, R Brighton and N Smith 91pts

4th R Allen, T Guest, P Barson and J Henson 88pts

5th M Sims, J Whaler, J Elstone and C Smith 86pts

Nearest the pin on the 6th was John Henson and on the 17th was Alan Barnes.

2019 was a record breaking year for the amount of money amount raised with a grand total of £1910. Well done to all.
