Junior Captain wins Championship Trophy
Playing in really strong winds and very testing conditions on Friday 21st August, Belton Park juniors competed for the 2020 Junior Club Championships. In a very close-run contest our Junior Captain Emily Horsted was eventually victorious and was crowned Junior Club Champion. Runner up in the gross competition was sister Ellie just two shots behind.
In the nett competition, there were some very good scores from Jack Parker and Blake Smith but the winner with an outstanding nett score of 66 was Ellie Horsted.
For our younger players without a handicap, a nine-hole competition was played on the Deer course and the inaugural winner of this event was Charlie Grindle with a superb nett score of four under par.
Congratulations to Emily, Ellie and Charlie for their excellent performances on the day, and to all the juniors who took part.
Ladies Competitions Update
In July, the Ladies returned to competitive golf on Tuesdays. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the calendar was much changed and trophy competitions became the priority. A number of trophy competitions took place in July, the Trophy winners were as follows:-
The Marjorie Moore Trophy - Louise Barrett with a nett score of 68
The Twenty Fifteen Trophy had been changed to a pairs, betterball stableford format. The winners, Jane Renfrew and Vicky Grindal came in with a magnificent 47 points, which was 3 points clear of the second placed
The Sybil Brownlow Trophy is an individual medal and was won by Becky Lloyd with a staggering net score of 65
The Breda Boyle Trophy was won by Jacquie Barson with an excellent 39 points
The Ladies Vets Bowl is played for by Ladies of a certain age. The winner was Pam Mackey with a wonderful score of 42 points
The individual winners have not only won a Trophy, but they have achieved a reduction in their handicap and are to be congratulated.
Lady Captain’s Day
On the 2nd August, Lady Captain Pam Wiggins held her Lady Captain’s Day and thankfully the sun shone. There was a large field of 67 Ladies who had signed up for the Team Competition and some brilliant scores were returned.
The winners with 92 points were: Veronica Rose, Jacquie Barson, Sally Knight, and Ruth Graham
In 2nd place: Julie Hamer, Jackie Scott, Lucy Morley and Becky Lloyd
and 3rd place : Vicky Grindal, Louise Barrett, Anthea Nichol and Lisa White
Nearest the pin winners were Jackie Wilson, Anna Clark, Janet Reilly and Sally Knight
After the Golf competition, the opportunity was taken to celebrate the 90th birthday of one of our senior Ladies. Those that stayed afterwards were treated to a slice of a specially made birthday cake and a glass of wine (all at an acceptable ‘social distance’ of course).
Ladies Club Championship
The most prestigious competition in the Ladies calendar is the Ladies Club Championship and this was played over the weekend of the 8th and 9th August with a round of golf on both days. Once again, we were blessed with good weather.
Twenty-four ladies took part and the current Club Champion, Anna Clark, retained the title with a gross score of 157 for the two rounds. The nett Trophy was won by Jo Pearson. This is a great achievement by both players and the congratulations of the Ladies Section are well deserved.
Sizzling scores for Belton Park Juniors!
On the hottest day of the year so far, the Juniors at Belton Park competed for the Jeremy Grace Trophy. The standard of play and resulting scores were outstanding and all of the top four received handicap cuts.
In third place with a very good score of 42 points was James Hayle and in second place with an excellent 43 points was Junior Captain Emily Horsted. However, beating Emily to the Trophy was sister Ellie who amassed an incredible 47 points and has received a three-shot handicap reduction as a reward.
Well done to Ellie and next up for our Juniors is the Ancaster Shield and the ADA Trophy.
