July Specials

Belton Park Juniors are back!

Belton Park Juniors played their first league match for four years at Burghley Park on Saturday 10th July. The team were all playing in their first competitive league match and performed outstandingly, winning 11 matches and halving the other. This gave Belton Park 23 points out of 24 available to take an early lead in the 2021 South Lincs Junior league. Congratulations to Ellie Horsted, Marcus Wildblood, James Hayle and Blake Smith for producing some superb golf against the teams from Burghley Park, Stoke Rochford and Greetham Valley. Next up is a fixture at Stoke Rochford on 29th July.

Seniors Captain's Day

On Tuesday July 6th, The Seniors at Belton Park Golf Club played in the Seniors Captain’s Day. The weather forecast was not great, but we were very lucky to dodge the heavy downpours!

15 teams of 4 competed in a Florida scramble and 4 players took part in a 9-hole individual Stableford competition. Each player was presented with a “goody bag” on the first tee.

Complementary refreshments were served in the halfway hut, by the Seniors Captain’s wife Helen, the Vice-Captain’s wife Jan and the Gent’s past Captain’s wife Jane. Refreshments included the Lincolnshire delicacy of plum bread and cheese.

There was a prize draw which raised £355 for the Captain’s two charities, the Alzheimer’s Society and the Grantham Passage.

The Florida scramble format is very similar to a Texas scramble and teams need to think hard about their strategy to make the best use of their shots. There were some excellent scores, and the results were as follows:

Seniors Invitation Day

Thursday, July 1st saw the annual Seniors Invitation Day competition for the Belton Park Seniors. This is an annual event, where members invite guests to play in a pairs betterball Stableford competition. This is the main Seniors charity fundraising event of the year and after the competition there was an auction for a variety of 4-ball vouchers which raised £1,250.

36 pairs competed and there were prizes for the first six places, plus a nearest the pin prize for members and guests. There was also a new trophy for the winning Belton Park member, the Ian Saunders Memorial Challenge Trophy. Ian was a member of the golf club for many years and was Seniors Captain in 1997-8. He presented a memorial board on behalf of the Seniors which is on the 23rd hole and was recently refurbished by the Seniors section.

The course was in immaculate condition, and the weather eventually turned out to be very sunny, despite a cold start. The scoring was excellent in good conditions, and the winning pair were Simon Denton and his guest Bill Hurrell, with a score of 43 points. Simon was presented with the new trophy by two of Ian Saunders’ daughters, Sarah and Rachel.

After the presentation Sarah and Rachel were taken on the course to view the refurbished memorial board which was presented by their father Ian.
