BPGC Seniors win The Leicestershire Seniors Summer Open!

On Thursday July 26th, four teams of Belton Park Seniors played in the Leicestershire Seniors Summer Open. The format was an AM-AM with two best Stableford scores to count on each hole, each player receiving 90% of full handicap.

The weather was hot and sunny, the course was very dry with cracks appearing in places and the greens were smooth and quick.

The team consisting of Tim Stubbs, Frank Overton, Alan Addis and Graham Secker were worthy winners with a fantastic score of 87 points! For Tim this was the second great result this year at the Leicestershire as he was in the team that came 4th in the Spring Seniors Open back in April!

Mixed team match vs Seacroft - July 29th

On Sunday 29th July the Belton Park mixed team welcomed the mixed team from Seacroft. The weather was back to a fairly normal British Summer – rather windy and drizzling rain – however it did improve and the game went ahead as planned.

After a most enjoyable meal the Club Captain Colin Mason welcomed Seacroft Ladies President Eve and Seacroft Club Captain Harry Wilkinson and Simon Denton & Helen Long Vice Captains at Belton Park.  Colin went on to say that, despite being the only defeat, they had a most enjoyable game!

Seacroft match organiser Geoff Smith responded saying that the weather had turned out much better than forecast, that he was impressed with the state of the course, and he praised the green staff for their efforts and also the catering and bar staff.  He then remembered to announce the result as a 7-1 win to Belton Park!

C Team Match vs Sleaford - July 26th

This was the 13th match of 20 this season, played at home on the Ancaster course which includes the middle 9 holes. This provided an interesting challenge for the away players not familiar with the interesting “middle 9” holes.

The weather was a very warm humid evening and the halfway hut with ice cold drinks and cold chocolate bars were appreciated by all the players. The course was being threatened with distant thunder storms but no rain fell.

Sleaford were keen to avenge the defeat at Sleaford earlier in the season, but the Belton Park team won convincingly by 5½ to ½.

Captain Ian Carroll & Neil Gray                 Won 2&1
John Cooke & Jim Wiggins                         Won 5&4

Ben Baylis & Keith Smith                            Halved
Pali Tamang & Nigel Rodway                    Won 3&2
