Ellie Mae Horsted wins England Golf Women’s Regional Final!

As the club winner for Belton Park, Ellie Mae Horsted took part in the North Midlands Regional Final on the 9th of June in hopes of proceeding to the respective England Golf Women’s Medal Final. Being a 13-year-old junior competing in a Ladies National competition may seem daunting to some, however, Ellie Mae’s reputation around the golf community has sparked great interest towards her future accomplishments. A total of 61 golfers played 18 holes of stableford at Northampton golf club hoping to earn their place in the Final at Woodhall Spa in August. Our teen prodigy Ellie Mae came out on top with a highly impressive 37 stableford points, securing her place among the best golfers in England. Everyone at Belton Park Golf Club looks forward to seeing Ellie grow as a player, and we wish her all the best in the Medal Final.

Belton Park Seniors Championship

The Belton Park Seniors played in their championship competitions over two weeks, with medal competitions that are the two rounds of the Seniors championship, the Ian Lindsay Trophy.

The first round was played in lovely sunny and warm conditions on June 8th and the second round was played on June 15th in even warmer conditions. The course was in superb condition for both rounds, but the rough has been growing well, proving challenging for those of us that missed the wide fairways!

There are two medal trophies for the best net score in each medal round, the Colin Ryan Cup and the John Cowe Cup. The Ian Lindsay Trophy goes to the player with the best combined gross score over the two medal rounds.

The Colin Ryan Cup was won by Dave Dobney with a net score of 68, and the John Cowe Cup was won by Howard Lockwood with a net score of 66. The winner of the Ian Lindsay Trophy was Seniors Vice-Captain Tim Stubbs with gross scores of 79 and 77, total 156. The full results of both rounds are as follows:

Seniors Match vs Rutland Water (away) – Monday, June 14th

On Monday, June 14th Belton Park Seniors travelled to Rutland Water Golf Club for their away match.

The Rutland course was very dry and firm which made it difficult for those not familiar with how the greens run. With lovely sunny weather and a pleasant breeze, the conditions were ideal.

The top two matches were good wins for the Belton team 4&3, with the Captain and Vice-Captain both victorious. After 5 results, Belton were happy to be winning 3½ to 1½. However, with 2 more losses and a win in the final match, Belton were the eventual winners by 4½ to 3½, another good away win!

Mike Collins won a bottle of wine for nearest the pin on the 12th hole, and four of the Belton team scored a two, each winning a golf ball.
