The Captain’s Fizzy Friday - June 21st

The inaugural Captain’s Fizzy Friday social golfing event was held on Friday evening in lovely summer weather. The first event was well attended with 21 players taking part in what the Captains (Helen and Simon) hope will be a regular social and golfing event.

Teams of 3 played in a 9-hole Texas scramble on the Ancaster course (holes 19-27). After the golf, the teams enjoyed an excellent meal with “fizz”.

The winning team of Sue, Pete and Emily scored a magnificent 30.3 with birdies on the last two holes! In second place were Stuart, Reine and Les. A prize was also awarded to the youngest player, Blake aged 10.

C Team win 4-2 vs Stoke Rochford - June 21st

On Friday, June 21st, the Belton Park C Team played a match against Stoke Rochford on the Ancaster course (holes 19-27 and 1-9).

To tee it up on a warm sunny afternoon is as good as golf gets and then the business began between two well-established teams.

Belton Park’s first pair (a “duet” of Ians) started strongly with a display of fabulous putting from Ian Whyte and, if anything missed, Captain Ian Carroll was there to take over, achieving an early win.

The course was in great condition, with superb fairways and true greens, but oh! the rough (ball collector) was penal!

Each set of pairs played to win, but Belton Park took home advantage, winning 4-2.

Stoke Rochford Captain Darryl Knight praised the course and stated he looks forward to the return match. A carvery with pudding was enjoyed by all at the end of a good day’s golf.

Best pair of the match went to Captain Ian Carroll and Ian Whyte with a 7&6 win, so both players go on to the best player of the year award.

Vice-Captain Andy MacGowan again donated a bottle of wine for nearest the pin on the 13th hole which was won by Stoke Rochford’s famous player David Hamilton, well done!

Andy’s cellar space is getting bigger due to the fact that Andy’s wife is thinking of taking in a lodger!

This year Clive Horn has won 5 matches in a row and we know this because he has told us on many occasions - keep this up and he might get picked again!!!!! Let’s see how long this streak lasts!?

Big Alec Sherwin (new member from Burghley) played his first match and won. He was so stressed his hair curled!!!!!

Peter Thacker came into play for his first time and congratulations on your first win - so big thanks Peter.

A past hero, Keith Smith, came back to do battle, partnering Ben Bayliss with his bandaged knee, but alas plans of a win did not materialise.

Ajay Panchal was arriving late and fell over his wallet in the car park, but still played despite being wounded on his hand and his leg, and he still got a win! Ajay shows his grit…

Seniors pull off away win at Peterborough Milton

The Seniors pulled off their first away win of the season at Peterborough Milton on Thursday, June 20th. The Milton course has been improved quite considerably with new revetted bunkers on a number of holes and was in great condition. The match was played in lovely weather (for a change!) and in excellent spirits.

The first pair of Captain Mike Collins and Vice-Captain Pete Long managed a half despite being 3 down after 7 holes! Mike scored an eagle 3 on the par 5 8th hole to get the match back to 1 down at the turn. The pair recovered on the back 9 to achieve a half.

The second pair of Time Stubbs and Bill Brogan won 4&3 after Tim carded a magnificent gross 74, including 4 birdies! The team welcomed Mike Bower back for his first match of the season after recovering from a serious injury, and with John McNally, the pair won 5&4!

After 5 games, Belton were unbeaten, but the last 3 groups lost their matches ending with a great win for Belton Park 4½ to 3½.

Following an excellent lunch, Dennis Santer won a bottle of wine for the nearest the pin on the 11th hole for Belton Park.

Lincolnshire Amateur Champion 2019 - Jack Diment

Congratulations to Jack Diment, Will Hopkins, Harry Glen and all the Belton Park players who took part in the Lincolnshire Amateur Championship last Sunday.

Jack, Will and Leon Leaney from Woodhall Spa all carded 138 for 36 holes and went on to play a tense, sudden-death, playoff over three holes (1st, 2nd and 9th) until a winner emerged. After the first three extra holes Leon was eliminated and Jack and Will continued down the 1st once again.

After two superb shots into the green both Will and Jack had putts for a birdie. Jack sank his attempt and won the hole.

Belton Park players took a number of Trophies and Prizes together with the opportunity to represent the County later in the year.

Belton Park Results:
Jack Diment Winner of the ‘Bloomer Championship Trophy’ and Amateur Champion 2019
Will Hopkins Runner-up
Will Hopkins Winner, Under 21, The M. Lee Salver
Harry Glenn Runner-up
Will Hopkins Best AM Score

Both Jack and Will qualify to play in the Lincolnshire Matchplay Finals at Woodhall Spa on 31st July 2019 and Jack qualifies to play in the England ‘Champion of Champions’ on 15th September at Frilford Heath GC.

In addition to the individual successes Belton Park will represent Lincolnshire in the ‘English Champion Club’ competition at Romford GC on the 21st & 22nd September 2019.

Once again, congratulations to all our players.
