Battle Back 2020
Belton Park Golf Club hosted the Battle Back charity golf day for the second year on the Ancaster course. In order to meet strict Covid-19 restrictions, the event had to meet all the latest advice and approvals from England golf, SKDC Environmental Health as well as Belton Park’s own in-house rules as laid down by the Management Committee.
This year the format was a four-ball better-ball competition with the best two scores to count on each hole, with a 90% handicap allowance. There were prizes for 1st and 2nd places, the winning team receiving the Belton Park/Battle Back charity shield which was made and donated by Gents Vice Captain, Andy MacGowan.
The main purpose of this event is to raise funds to help in the rehabilitation of seriously injured ex-service personnel through some type of sporting activity. It’s not the winning, it’s the taking part in a competitive golf day which raises much-needed funds for the Battle Back charity. The Belton Park members relish the chance to meet and play golf with the Battle Back team of players who have overcome serious injury to play a sport, an inspiration to us all!
Organiser Ian Carroll would like to say a big thank-you all our lady helpers (Fiona and Pat) on the day, giving up their free time to help with the signing in and collecting payments. Also, thanks to Veronica and Jeanette serving food and drinks in the halfway hut, Martin Clarke as starter on the tee box, Tom Green our very own photographer, and our score card checker Richard Claxton.
Ian would also like to thank all of our sponsors who donated so kindly; Tom Price of St James place, Advance 365 Ltd Honda, James Truman MKM Builders merchants, Parkland signs, KBR plumbing, and many more individual sponsors. We received raffle donations and £50 per hole sponsorships which promote this event enormously. 4-ball vouchers were also donated by other golf clubs to be auctioned off after the event.
The winning team was; Belton Park C Team Captain and organiser Ian Carroll, Belton Park Vice Captain Andy MacGowan, Battle Back team Captain Andy Carlton, and Gaz Meekins.
Second place was the team of; Ken Kane, John Cooke, Graeme Day, and Dave Shepherd.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Battle Back (Blesma) charity fund which is based at Stanford Hall, the UK’s main rehabilitation hospital which is only 25 miles away from Grantham.
If anyone would like to donate, please contact Greg in the office.
