Wins for Belton Park Golf Club’s first and second teams at the weekend confirmed them as winners of their respective South Lincolnshire Golf league First divisions.
Belton’s first team led by John Kirkup, in the absence of regular captain Jack Diment who was playing for the County, won 4-2 away at Stoke Rochford Golf Club. This was the first loss at home for Stoke this year. The Belton first team secured the league title with a game remaining and without losing all year. They have won 6 matches and drawn 3.
The second team led by Captain Spike Carr won 4 ½-1 ½ at home to Sleaford. Nearest rival Spalding lost away at Burghley Park and this meant the title goes to Belton. The second team played 8 matches, winning 5, drawing 2 and with one loss.
Both teams progress to play for the Lincolnshire titles against the winners from North of the County, at South Kyme Golf Club on Sunday 7th October.
Club Captain Colin Mason commented “This is a great achievement for both teams to be the best in the local area of golf clubs and shows the quality of players at the club”.
Three of the first team are playing at Seacroft Golf Club on Sunday 19th August in the final of the Lincolnshire singles cup “The Bramley Trophy”.
