On Sunday, September 2nd players with handicaps of 9 and better played for the annual “Upper Crust trophy” and “Stan Robinson tankard”. Unfortunately, due to a clash of dates, five players were unable to attend as they were playing for Lincolnshire County.
The event has been held annually since 1961 after being inspired by local Syston member Donald Clegg who wished to see the best players of the club play together and then dine.
Then in 1976, member Stan Robinson presented a tankard for the event to be awarded to the player with the best gross score. This year’s event was held in pleasant warm sunny weather with the Brownlow course in excellent condition.
Nigel Evans with a net 68 won the Upper Crust trophy, with Adrian Allen the Stan Robinson tankard with a best gross of 73.
After play, players attended a dinner with the menu chosen by last year’s winner Jack Diment. Before proposing a toast to the club, Captain Colin Mason congratulated the top players on winning both the first and second team South Lincolnshire leagues this year. He then presented the trophies to the winners
