Over the weekend of 21st and 22nd September, Belton Park represented Lincolnshire in the Champion Club of England finals. This was the first time in our history that we have qualified for this event and it was a great weekend for Lincolnshire golf.
The team comprised Jack Diment, fresh from the individual event the week previously, Chris Haynes and our Club Champion Matt Haynes. The event was held at Romford Golf Club in Essex and again the weather was very kind except for a couple of showers on Sunday.
A few stray tee shots cost all three of our players on the Saturday from shooting really strong rounds. Scores of +2, +2 and +3 put us at +7 at the halfway stage and in mid table, 12 shots behind the leaders. It was therefore always going to be a tough ask on Sunday but two strong rounds from Jack and Matt and a steady round from Chris helped Belton finish in the top 10 which was a great result against such strong clubs from across the Country.
We must also thank our supporters who made the time to cheer on the lads and in particular Dick and Josie Short who were there for both days which the lads greatly appreciated.
All three players deserve credit for the way in which they have represented both Lincolnshire and Belton Park Golf Club and we are sure that more success will come for us in National competitions in the future.
