C team in a great away win 4½ to 1½ at The Nottinghamshire

The C team played away in a midweek match at The Nottinghamshire in alternating warm and windy or very wet rainy conditions. The courses were freshly cut and were in very good condition with fast true greens.

The 6 pairs split into 2 groups with 3 pairs playing each course. Belton Park C team Captain Ian Carroll partnered by Past Gents Captain Colin Mason competed against The Nottinghamshire’s club Captain Graham Chambers (the club’s matchplay champion!) and Dick Poole. This game was close, but as Graham played to scratch up to the 13th hole, Ian and Colin were fighting to keep within reach of Graham’s game and ended up losing 3&2.

The remainder of the matches resulted in 4 wins for Belton Park and one halved match. During the speeches the Belton Park players did mention that their Captain had lost yet again, but his team selection once again proved excellent in achieving a great away win!

Best pair on the night went to Andy MacGowan and Dish Patel with a 3&2 win so both players are competing for best player of the year and are closing in on John Cooke, the early favourite.

Gents Captain Simon Denton partnered by Martin Clarke have made a different start this year as they won! Something has changed from last year but what? Will the nickname – “Sideways Simon” be a thing of the past?
