C team earn a home draw with Sleaford 3-3

Thursday 25th July was a day to remember for the record temperature of over 36 degrees at its peak! The Belton Park c team took on the Sleaford C team on an absolutely beautifully finished and presented golf course, the Brownlow course (holes 1-18).

The heat took its toll on all players and drinking copious amounts of water was essential. The first pair, Captain Ian Carroll and Robb Tapp, took on Sleaford Captain Al Pearson and Walt Drayton.  After an up and down front nine, the Belton pair were 1 down at the turn and a birdie on the 10th made the game level. The game had both teams leading until Ian and Robb won 3 on the trot winning the game, the same result as the away match earlier this month.

Games 2 and 6 both went right to the 18th hole, but Sleaford were victorious in both games. In the 3rd game, Colin Mason took on the duty of helping our new young player Viren Panchal (welcome to the C team) play in his first ever match and with some good golf managed to get a half – a big thank you to Colin.

There seems to have been some confusion in the penultimate game as they played holes 19-27 instead of 10-18! Gents Captain Simon Denton and Kevin Smith were 4 down at the turn and managed to get a half, proving the that “inner nine” is a tough course for visitors!

Sleaford Captain Al Pearson thanked the greenkeeping staff for presenting the course in such excellent condition. A Salmon platter meal was enjoyed for dinner thanks to the catering staff.

Simon Denton thanked everyone for playing and praised all parties involved with the C team – a big thank you to Simon for making time to play in such a busy year’s schedule.
