On another beautiful summer evening Belton Park hosted Radcliffe Golf Club on Wednesday 27th June in a club match fixture. In the battle of the Captains, Colin Mason and Martin Kelby narrowly lost the opener to Radcliffe Captain Simon Bacon and his partner Gary Winship. The second match was halved before Radcliffe moved ahead with another victory in the third game. Jim Fulton and John Taylor then pulled one back for Belton with victory in the fourth match and the match was levelled after the best performance of the evening from Mick Green and Duncan Bagshaw. This pair had 9 birdies between them with Mick shooting a gross 66 with his own ball.
So all rested on the final match which was extremely close between vice Captain Simon Denton and his partner Ged O’Reilly against Radcliffe vice Captain Darren Bicknell and his partner Julian Benton. It went to the 17th where Radcliffe secured the point to win the overall match 3 ½ to 2 ½.
Ex Notts cricketer Darren Bicknell (Radcliffe Vice Captain) praised Belton for the wonderful condition of the course, its hospitality and he looks forward to welcoming Belton for the reverse fixture next year.
